Monarch Welcomes Peg Day to Bank!

April 28th, 2010

Monarch Community Bank welcomes Peggy Day, vice president and regional banking officer to the branch at 107 N. Park on the circle in Marshall.  Day comes to the bank from Marshall Community Credit Union and has 26 years of prior experience in finance.  Her responsibilities will include business development in Calhoun County.

Peggy Day, Vice President, Regional Banking Officer

Day is a graduate of Marshall High School and of Western Michigan University, where she obtained degrees in finance and management.  She continues to reside in Marshall with her husband Bob, and their children Joe and Calvin.  In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family at their cottage.

Day is actively involved with the Marshall Rotary Club, Junior Achievement board chair, Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, and in 2009 she nominated as one of the Top Women in Finance in the West Michigan Business Review.

When asked what she’s looking forward to in her new position she said, “I’m excited to work with friends and family in the community”.   Don Denney, President and CEO of Monarch Community Bank welcomed Day to the bank by saying, “Peggy’s experience and enthusiasm is a great asset to our bank and to the community.  We invite community members to stop in our branch to see her, or introduce yourself”.

Monarch Contributes to Teach Children to Save Day!

April 27th, 2010

Tricia Rzepka, Monarch Community Bank's Community Business Development Officer talks to Courtney Dean's Math Class today.

For 14 years the Teach Children to Save program through the American Bankers Association has partnered with banks around the country to teach students the importance of saving.  The program’s goal is to encourage bankers to reach 5 million students before the end of 2011, the 15th anniversary of Teach Children to Save.  To inform area students about the importance of saving money, Tricia Rzepka of Monarch Community Bank, spoke at Courtney Dean’s and Amy Paradine’s classes at Quincy Middle School on Teach Children to Save Day, April 27th.

Rzepka is the community business development officer at Monarch sent to the school with the charge to educate students about the difference between wants and needs.  This is an important aspect of her speech since recent studies report that almost 90% of young people have never taken a class in personal finance, although they spend billions per year.

Monarch Online Banking and Mint.com

April 21st, 2010

Mint.com is a personal finance web app, which helps you keep track of spending and income. Up until this week, Monarch Community Banks online banking was not supported, but now it is.

We have had the ability (and still do) to export to Excel, Microsoft Money and Quicken. However the process is still a manual process of downloading and the importing.

I am lazy, and the less steps the better. That is where Mint comes in.

With Mint you can automatically pull all your Monarch accounts you have listed. Once your account is set up then that’s when the fun begins. (well if you call micromanagement of your finances fun.)

Monarch Helps Provide Wish List Items for Manor

April 6th, 2010

When The Manor came out with an email requesting donations for their renovation project recently, Monarch Community Bank employees were excited to help the residential treatment and special education facility in Jonesville. Then came notification that The Manor received more donations than expected from the community, but employees at Monarch were able to help in another way.

“On The Manor’s website, they have provided list of items that the residents at the facility are in need of. We were excited to fulfill some of those wants and needs,” said Jill Parsons, teller manager at the Hillsdale Branch located in Hillsdale on Carleton Road.

The bank employees went shopping and got a variety of items which were on the wish list including: construction paper, markers, crayons, towels, wash cloths, underwear, socks, shampoo, coloring books, chalk, notebooks, folders, and more. When employees went to bring the items to get donated development coordinator, Jon Beal, gave the employees a tour of the facility and the stressed the importance of donations from the community. If you’re interested in making a donation or viewing the wish list for The Manor, go to their website at www.the-manor.org. “We’re glad we were able to help the residents in some small way and we look forward to more donations in the future,” said Courtney Dirschell of the marketing department at the bank.
